In 2005 I developed a range of TomTom product concepts and rendered them with the Maxwell beta. I decided to publicize them now:

Next Limit, just let me know in case you like one or more images enough to add them to the Maxwellrender.com gallery, then I'll be glad to send you a bigger / better version.

Cheers,

Metin

Wonderful work Metin! Really impressive. I would like to know more about studio style lighting...that's my weakest link. Would you share some information on the setup you used for these shots? I would very much appreciate it.

Cheers, Ron

Thanks very much guys!

My studio setup tips:

1: Use a white sheet with a Lambertian diffuse material, bending in the background and continuing upward.

2: In my scenes I've placed 4 large softbox lights in strategic positions and angles. The location and orientation depends on your scene. Because the lights are large, they create nice large reflections on your subjects as well.

3: Experiment with the right camera settings (fstop, shutterspeed and lens diameter) for a nice subtle DOF.

4: Always make sure your scene is setup and modeled in the right scale and make sure your lights have a realistic strength (studio lights rarely go beyond 2500 W).

5: Pay enough attention to the right materials with the right reflection roughness. They determine a lot of the realism in your scene.

Cheers!

Thanks for the tips Metin! One last question...what are 'softbox' lights?

Thanks again,
Ron

just need a little more contrast and level adjustments and these could be photos. They lack something right now and I think thtas it.

Thanks Hyperballad!

Some of the images could indeed use some more contrast, but in my experience processing that into the image afterwards doesn't do good to the renders.

The project was closed about a year ago already, so I guess I'll just leave it this way and not dig up those scenes again. :)

You're very welcome Ron. Softbox lights are large rectangular studio lights (sometimes a width and height of a meter). They are called softbox lights because they cast diffuse shadows due to their size.

In Maxwell you simply create a plane with the same dimensions, that's enough to simulate a softbox.
