you seem to be one of only a handful that are doing animations. I know you have an extensive 'farm' to work with but who easy/difficult is it to set up animation with maxwell?
I'd like to get into animating in maxwell but at this point I'm not sure if this is something I can realistically pursue with my limited resources.

Ok, well one of the biggest issues you have to deal with is exporting your frames and where you will store them. This animation had about 5000 frames which all total was about 488 GB of information. I have a specific hard drive that I use only for exporting MXS files; this drive needs to be pretty fast because you will spend a significant amount of time writing those files to the drive. On average each frame took about 30 seconds to export from Max, needless to say I spent hours and hours just waiting for the frames to export. You also have to deal with the fact that due to some memory leak in the Maxwell plugin when exporting Max becomes unstable. Sometimes Max would crash after exporting 100 or so frames, other times it would crash after exporting 1 frame.
After you get the frames exported you have to submit them to render which is the easy part, once they begin rendering is when you have to watch out. Most of the time if I had a job that had 200 frames about 1/3 of those frames would fail for what ever reason. The only way to fix this problem is to submit each frame individually for re-rendering. I can't tell you how much I want a system like Backburner for Maxwell, it's ability to pick up dropped frames and re-render them, or the way it will only use a defective computer so many times before it quits sending frames to it. Those kind of features really need to be implemented into Maxwell's render manager.
