you're getting the error because maxwell doesnt support instanced geometry, think it will be fixed in the 1.0 release hopefully, theres a tool in the maya bonus tools that will convert instanced geometry to normal polys.

ok dude, better to eliminate the obvious

Works for me with a new scene new maxwell camera and environmental sky, maybe theres something wrong with your installation?

WOW just installed maxwell in ubuntu linux, and the same thing, an empty scene and i get this error in the script editor:

// Mayall: Starting export to Maxwell Scene
// Mayall: General Data exported

Tried reinstalling maxwell with a deb package converted with alien and i get this:

(Reading database ... 84760 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace maxwell 1.2.2-2 (using maxwell_1.2.2-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement maxwell ...
Setting up maxwell (1.2.2-2) ...
ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/NextLimit/Maxwell/lib/libqt-mt.so.3' to `/usr/N extLimit/Maxwell/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.3.1': No such file or directory
Create a file called license.txt file with your licensing information in:
/usr/NextLimit/Maxwell

I got the same error in my MAYA scene but found the problem.

It seems Maxwell can´t handle objects with the same name but in diferent groups, then he understand they are instances (but they aren´t), I simply regroup all the objects behind the same group so all the names change and be diferent from eachother, now it renders OK.

Hope it can help anyone.
