its quite quiet here in the Maya forum
Ive been thinking, i dont think it can be the camera settings as it happens on the preview and high quality render and if i am right the low quality render will just use the current perspective not taking into acount any camera setting you have made (correct me if i am wrong), therefore the problem must lie in the maxwell globals themselves

Have you probe to render all objects with a standard MXDiffuse to see if the problem is in the renderGlobals?

it looks like you don't have all your passes checked in your globals - Looks like direct light only - It is possible to have them all switched on for preview mode (even if low quality is on), but not have them toggled on for the master mode....
just a guess.....

jep - even when all passes are on still renders black
iker - tried with just diffuse and it turns out the render is fine so it seems it is the materials causing the problem
- has anyone else got this problem?

i think its the glass causing the problem

I have the same problem, last night I rendered a test with loads of glass in it, left it for 60mins and it was darker than a 1min render...I am guessing it is some wierd bug in the Glass shader.
In ric's model there are window panels which are black, this happened to me as well, I think this is what is causing the problem!
Also has anyone noticed if you have one plane of glass infront of the other the reflection of the glass is black? It doesn't happen is 3DSmax.

Ric_535 can you post your glass settings?

'the_deal_maker' can you post your glass settings please? I will give them a go and see if it makes a difference.

the_deal_maker, are you by any chance using glass in the windows in the background? If you do, ALL lighting that comes into the room through the window is treated like refracted caustics, so it will take you at least 3 times more to have a noise free image.

Well I don't have any problems with glass; this is a quick test ( 20 mins )
Color: White
ND: 1.500
Abbe: 90
"Max bounces : 40" <-------- Maxwell globals
http://rapidshare.de/files-en/592769/57 ... iquido.jpg
I think the trick for the glass is in the Abbe number and the Max bounces, as higher are both, clearer and noiseless the glass is.
(if someone wants the scene i'll post it)

Exit light, enter night, take my hand, we're off to never neverland...

that's the reason
