How do i preview a texture when I apply it my object? - all I see is the object coloured green but it renders ok with the texture. Is there a hotkey for it... in mverta's video I hear the key being pressed to show the texture.

Does anyone know what the default font is for Maya or how to change it (within the output window/script editor etc)? I removed some faults from the Windows - Fonts folder and now Maya is selecting a cartoon font which I can't read.

Thanks.

Hey man,

1) Press 6 on your keyboard.
2) As far as I know, Maya uses the default windows font MS Sans Serif. It should only change if you change your main windows UI font (in the display settings panel in windows)

Cheers,
Dr Merman

Also...

How do I show the 'distance from camera' numerical values (shown on the video in top right of view) in order to enter into the 'manual focus' option?

Does the Maya plugin use projectors as in Studio? (can't find any for my textures)

Hi will, to show the object distances go to:

Display > Heads Up Display > Object Details

And the Maya plugin uses whatever UV mapping methods Maya has (or most of them should work anyway). You can either unwrap the UVs like you would for a character model, or you can use Maya's texture projections.

To project a texture in Maya you need to tick the 'As Projections' box at the top of the dialogue for creating a new File Texture or procedural texture.
