Finding Textures in Maxwell for Maya

I posted this befand have tried a few things but no luck.

When I download a maxwell material from the maxwell site that has textures in it. Of course the texure path is based on the creator.

I have tried copying the textures to the textures folder in the materials data base folder but it still does not see them by default. Is there a prefernce I can set so that it does that automatically?

Thanls

Peter

I did a few tests and found that if you put the maxwell textures in the source images folder (or the default Maya folder but kinda gets messy so source is better.) Then once you have relinked them once it Maya will relocate them from the source images folder. BUT

You have to relink them the first time... so its better but still a hassle... it woudl be great if you can tell Maya or Maxwell to go to a location by default if the path to the textures does not exist an dload teh same name file form there.

Any body know how to write a mel script to have this happen?

Sure hunter

Maxwell is not smart enough to know to look in the same directory that the maya model is in, or to look in the source images directory in the default location of Maya. So I still have not figured out or heard a reply from maxwell if there is a location where it will look first for the linked file name. If you ever find that out I would love to know. Instead I have all my Maxwell materials on a external hard drive that I lug around. Then I open up the maxwell shader in the hypershade do a control A to open up the attribute editor and it will show a bunch of file tabs (file43 file 44 file 45 etc or 1 2 3 ) if you click on that tab it will have a link path (usually its the path that the creator of the material had on his hard drivce) So you have to locate that same texture file on your hard drive to re laod it.

Hope that helps
