Help with painted sheet metal material

Hi all!
I would appreciate some help with improving the photorealism of my ship renderings, mainly concerning material finish of the hull. This is one of my recent jobs: http://www.fkab.se/upload/1/288.jpg
and this is the reality: http://www.fkab.se/upload/1/151.jpg

At the moment I am just using a car paint shader, with some modifications, and I am having difficulties getting the right finish. Any help or ideas is appreciated!

Cheers,

For that finish I would better start with a very rough plastic than with car paint.

Yours is very close. I think I would start by dimming the reflections a little, and tinting them a little darker.

And it would help if you added the sheetmetal tiles of the ships hull :) and some roughnessmaps and bumpmaps like grime and such to give the surface some unevenness (if that's a word).
Anyhow, you're very close already!

Btw, welcome to the forum :)

Hi folks!

Thanks so much for your input. I totally agree about your opinions, both regarding "un-evenness" and the sheetmetal tiles. I will give it a try and figure out whether it's worth the time or if it's better to do it in Photoshop (Yes, I'm more confortable in Ps than in Maxwell ;)).

Cheers!
