I'm starting a flickr set devoted to textures built up with the scatter brush. At the moment I'm interested in faking fiber densities in fiberglass lampshades for thin SSS rendering in Maxwell 2.0 - I want to make some 1950's fiberglass lamps.

There is an 8 bit jpg in the flickr set (more to come) but you can easily make your own with a well chosen scatter brush and a slow buildup of texture.

I had been thinking of going to a fancy paper store and strongly backlighting a few sheets of art paper with a bright strobe and/or a softbox.

I may still, but the fake scatter methods may not be so bad.
