Back-lit Corian material

Hi all,

I would like to create an MXM to simulate back-lit Corian as seen here:

In case you're not familiar with Corian, back-lit Marble would be a close comparison. In the above example the pattern has been routered into the back surface of the Corian so that more light shines through where it is thinner.

Can anyone help? I don't know where to start! Even just tips as to how to create a glowing pattern on a plastic base material (no SSS) would be a great help.

Many thanks,

Nik

Create the image you want in Photoshop, open it in mxcl, convert it to mxi, and use it as an emitter. That's the easiest way unless you want to use some kind of rough translucent material which will probably create a noisy render.
