How to get clarity in thick 2" glass?

I've been able to resolve most issues with rendering glass, but I've got
a bit of a problem trying to show thicker glass (2"). I can't seem to
get the clarity that I typically get in 1".

***2" glass is sitting parallel with glass...dims = 2" x 10" x 10".

Suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

Besides using different ground plane images...can someone explain why such a difference in clarity between the two...is it just an illusion...ground plane numbers in one, nothing to focus on underneath in the other?

Scene is the same, only difference is the ground plane.

Thanks,

Hmmm...that's interesting...glass base on right appears frosted to me.

Try intersecting the glass base with the ground. ;)

i think bottom faces of glass should be deleted. Those witch are laing on the floor.

if you look at them closely - they are the same.
you only have the feeling that it is fristed in the second image because there is nothing the eye can focus on.
if you compare the dark and brighter parts of the glass - they are identical in both images.

That's what I see too.

I think they are identical and agree that it's an illusion because there is nothing to focus on beneath the image on the right.

Tried intersecting glass and plane...didn't change outcome...also tried removing glass from bottom surface...don't think it makes a difference.

The glass itself is virtually identical. Without the environment texture and without refraction cues our brain fails; the only thing left are the subtle caustics making it seem as if it was frosted of something, but it is not. It is a classic case where own perception fails us.
