Glass vs. Plastic Ior Value

Does anyone know what a good ior value would be for clear plastic as opposed to glass which is 1.51 according to the wizard? I have an object I am making that has 1/16" thick sides made of tranlucent plastic, but with an ior of 1.51, the internal reflections are too strong and bright. Just wondering if you product designers with plastic making skills could help me out. I could just experiment, but thought I'd ask first.

Thanks!

After some tweaking, rendering, and repeating, I finally got it close to the real plastic object. Just needed a lower nd value. Now the internal reflections are lessened.

... I would have instinctively said 1.1 / 1.25 ...
but I'm not expert.

I think I settled on 1.3 nd, but I didn't even experiment with higher values. I will try that out.

Hehe yeap, that's me. Magnus3D is my CGTalk id. :) check the CGPortfolio link at the bottom of my posts and you'll see it's me.

[Edit] : Bubba, my real name is Magnus. But i usually go by the nick of Max on forums because it's easier for foreigners to remember and to pronounce. :)

No doubt it's you, I just wondered why you went with Maximus in this forum. Was Magnus3d already taken? I like to use Bubbaloo in all of the sites I use, but sometimes when I sign up, Bubbaloo is already taken, if you can believe it.

Sometimes it varies which nick i'm able to pick, Maximus is quite a popular nickname on various forums. I blame that on the Gladiator movie grr.. :D Magnus3D wasn't taken but i think it was because i signed up on the Maxwell forum before i signed up on CGTalk, something like that.

Hehe i can imagine Bubbaloo being a popular nickname many wanna use, it's a good nick, has a certain funny "ring" to it when you say it out loud. :) i remember that Bubbaloogoogle logo someone created long time ago. Funny stuff!

Remember this one Bubba ? :D
