How would I go about creating this material? Any help would be appreciated...

Transmittance color and 5-10cm of attenuation. That's my bet.

And some roughness (maybe a map) and maybe SSS... Not easy.

I doubt the "glow" is from SSS--it's from surface roughness, since only the treated edges are really glowing.

I got too much colouration with low attenuation so increased it quite a lot.
I hope it makes a good starting point.
The box is 30x30x1 cm.

Thanks to all for your advice. I will be experimenting with this.
Everyone feel free to challenge yourselves with this one! I would be a great one to conquer!
Fernando great start to my quest!

you could try starting off with this one:

think of it as an inverted plastic material (the weighted layer is the lambertian layer instead of the "gloss") It's not perfect and sometimes the glow is excessive, though maybe it'd be "just right" for a fluoescent
I would imagine that you'd need two materials, (or some clever weight maps) so that only the edges are rough and the larger surfaces are the material without the "glow"

How about using an emitter layer, similar to this glass example but with an apropriate floro' colour?

I'd just fake it with an emitter material on the outside face and standard transparent SSS plastic in the middle. Set it to emit inwards from the sides a bit as well.

Come back to this.Tried this with emitters to no convincing effect.
Is there no way to get this effect without cheating?
It is the glowing properties that are really hard to get right. Is in Ior thing?
How does a material mess with light in this way?

Hi,
I've been using tom's translucent green mxm as basis for such material. With SSS, the effect is very close to what you want. But with some tweaking, you can get some decent results without the SSS also.

Could you possibly show you results here please?

this is an old test with variations of the material, the edges do show some light (not as fluorescent as in your example), hope it helps.

this is maybe a better example -
