Do you need it raised up? Is 5 MB not enough?

Usually the size is not high but sometimes it is needed a bit more. Could it be unlimited? As you usually check every material published you could control if somebody abuses the servers, etc.

More would be better. Not everyone will use it anyway, but it would be nice to have the option.

What I put in MyWonderfulMaterial.zip ?

Usually a material has at least 2 textures (colour, bump).
Usually this texture aren't littler than 800 x 600.
Let's say we use (at worst) a map 1024 x 768.
Saving as uncompressed Tiff, 8bit, we get an image of 2,28 MB (2.392.064 byte).

Plus, there is the standard scene preview (500 x 500 -> Png, 320 KB). It has beed requested more times to include this preview in the zip to have a preview while browsing with explorer.

And there is the MyWonderfulMaterial.mxm (117Kb, compressed about 90Kb).

Total is about 4,98Mb.

I can compress it a little using "Ultra" compression but i reached quite soon the limit.
If I have 16bit texture the space needed for one tiff became double.

Normally I don't reach the 5Mb limit, but i think 8-10Mb can increase the quality of the map you can upload (specially for people who can't host hy-res texture elsewhere).

Thank you,
Ricky.

Ps. using LZW lossless compression or Png I increase the 1024 x 768 limit.
But photographic images (with a lot of details) make compressions - LZW for Tiff and deflating for PNG images - less efficient.

I would like to see the limit increased. We would get better quality materials that way. Most of the time the materials I upload are not the same quality as the ones I create for renderings because of this limitation.

Thanks!

Hi!

we've changed the limit to 10 MB. Let's see if it's ok.
Cheers,

Somebody has already taken advantage of the situation to upload the mxi and mxs files of the test scene render. :?

I posted one that's just shy of 10MB - a Miller Genuine Draft label I did a while ago. Thought I'd try to be first with the new limit ;)
