creating a Tileable Seamless Brick Texture?

Hi

I've a photo of some yellow bricks that I want to convert into a seamless texture. I've read that you basically swap the image around top-left to bottom-right etc in order to make it seamless. trouble is that process screws up the middle of the image...

anyone got any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Yes there's a few things you can do, if you have Luxology's ImageSynth then you could use that to create a tileable texture outta that image. Or an alternative would be to use some procedural texture generator like Filter Forge to recreate that brick texture, you could use any of the user produced and free textures and tweak that into the look you want. I'm pretty sure that's easier than any other method. Maybe i can help you with it.. :)

I usually open pictures like that in Photoshop and use the filer "offset" (filter>other>offset) to wrap the image. Use values that are about half the size of the image. In this case: ca 1300x900 and then use the clone stamp (or other tools) to change the pattern into a seamless pattern.
