emitter texture

hi there
I'm trying to create an emitter texture that has kind of
a fall off at the border. For this purpose, I created the following
texture:

Now if I go into the material editor and set this texture (which I have
already converted to mxi) as emitter texture, I just get a black
preview. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

I just tried your texture, first with MXED and got a black preview
then I tried with studio max, updated the preview and it worked fine,
it also rendered as an emitter

so try just the emitter and see if you get the results you are after

thanks, it really seems to work. Guess I just have to
paint my map a little differently.
