Simulating an LCD

Hi folks,
I'm fairly new to Maxwell (longtime SolidWorks/PhotoWorks user) and I've got a project that includes an LCD screen. I wasn't sure how to simulate the screen glow, so what I ultimately ended up doing was putting an "invisible emitter" plane right in front of the surface with the screen bitmap. That worked ok but I suspect that I'd get better results actually using an emitter layer in the screen bitmap material. Every time I tried that though the screen bitmap got very washed out. Any tips on how to do this right? What approach would you take to simulating a color LCD display?
Thanks
