Subway sign (not the sandwichs...)

Hey guys,

I'm making a subway scene for my site and am wondering how to go about creating something like this :

Image

I've done some quick tests using weightmaps (a b+w copy of the graphics on the sign), sss, multilayered mats, but I'm still not coming up with much.
The second problem, is how to illuminate it. I've tried with a tube inside coupled with sss/transparency, but again, not much to show.
Next test is a two layered material, with both layers using sss, and the top, additive blue layer controlled with a weightmap. If and when that fails, I'm gonna try and convert it to an MXI.
In the meantime, if anybody has any suggestions, fire away :D

Cheers, and I'm sorry if this makes little sense, I've been up for far FAR too long :) ,

Have you tryed the easy way? One layer with that picture, a bit of transmittance, and sss (0,5/0,5) Apply the material to a plane and put two rectangular emitters behind.

OK, maybe I need sleep more than I thought. Thanks man :D

Maybe you want to add another layer for reflections.

I think mxi texture is better. :o

I'll add that to my knowledge baggage, but to support my option I have to say that sss with a plane renders quite fast :P (maybe it's still slower than mxi though). The mxi option is easier to setup for sure.

Edit: With the mxi option you can add a layer for reflections too. :)
