Step one
Image
This as been done by using 5 weightmap layers of different material.
Next step is to add bump and calibrated the material of each layers to look like some stainless steel.
I'm not sure that it's a good solution for a brush material...let see where i'm going.

hyltom,
Don't know what you are trying to show there, could not get access. It said,

I'm using Picasa for sharing the picture but seems not working for everyone. When I will be back to office, I will use flickr to share it. Sorry!

Where does the colour differences come from?
Is it textured colour, coating or environment reflecting?

Each color is a different material (layer)...just for testing. Now I'm replacing them by some complex IOR.

Step three

Basic color material replaced by complex IOR.

I definately like the complex IOR version better. I think if you want to get the rainbow effect of your first tests, you could just put a coating on the IOR material.

Step four

Scaled down the map, adjusted the bump setting and changed some complex IOR.

Step five

Adding coating to give more relief to the material. This one is not so good (coating is too present) but I have no time to update it. It's weekend time.
Thanks for your nice comment everyone. I really hope i can achieved a very good result soon. Around 80% of the product I'm designing have some stainless steel or aliminium wrap apply on them, so this material is very improtant for me.
