Objective:
Establish a control bank of deposited rendered images of the ior files included with Maxwell Render. The purpose of this first phase is to establish a sampling of the ior files to get an idea of the native surface, transparency, and color properties. Secondary to this purpose is an approximation of the S.L. needed for satisfactory resolution. A baseline can help in determing which ior files need higher sampling level.

The scene file link is here:

Purpose:
This thread will serve as a reference for the developers and the Maxwell Render Community. If you would like to help, I would welcome all help in getting this task done for further comparison and study.

The scene is actually one that Mike Verta shared with us during the release of RC1. I have edited it over time, and it is a really good scene test for material exploration. In this case, I intend to log render time, S.L. and Benchmark.

If you would like to help just post a message to start with what complex ior file you will render (example: Rendering Water.ior in progress...) and then later revise that post with image and render stats:

Render Stats are as follows:

S.L.

(Include Sample Level if different than 20, default baseline is 20)

Render Costing

LOW - Based on 1 processor, render completes in 0-10 hrs (if 2, 4, or 8 core adjust by multiplying time by 2/3, 1/2, 1/4 or appropiate factor).

MEDIUM - Based on 1 processor, render completes in 11-24 hrs (if 2, 4, or 8 core adjust by multiplying time by 2/3, 1/2, 1/4 or appropiate factor).

HIGH - Based on 1 processor, render completes in 25-100 hrs (if 2, 4, or 8 core adjust by multiplying time by 2/3, 1/2, 1/4 or appropiate factor).

By definition that "render completes", the render meets satisfactory conditions in terms of resolved solution. S.L. may be less than baseline.

Stats:

In Progress:

Failed or Corrupt IOR Files:
250 850 Indium Tin Oxide ITO.ior (Not Present)

Baseline Target S.L.
20

Notes:

All materials are taken directly from *.ior files as they are, verify that there are no maps, or any other values other than 00 for roughness, bump, anisotrophy, and angle. This will give the native appearance of each *.ior file as default.

Complete family such as the Aluminum Arsenide can be rendered after the main group of ior files has been completed. Once the group below is exhausted a new list to be rendered in order of list (a-z) will be provided for subgroup ior and a new scene file.

At this point only the subtle difference within a family group will be desired. A simple scene with the family group rendered will suffice. I prefer these to be done after we exhaust the main group and such only family groups remain.

Maintain as much as possible this thread as clean demonstration of banked images. :) Please select an ior file from the list below in order from the list below. Check this thread and the latest message post for latest ior rendered. You should render the next one on the list. Use the file download post above. Your help and render time for this project is graciously appreciated! Thank you!

I will update the compilation thread which includes thumbnails of the post from this thread. You can use free image host services for hosting your images. Please share them in this thread along with stats.

Next IOR to render:

Complete! More information about groups will be posted. Stay tuned.
