Here is a Violin I am working on. Its modeled in Maya and Modo401 and rendered Maxwell 2.

Very nice modelling! Take a look at sides mapping and see some photo references — the fibres should go a different way if I am not mistaken.
Also shouldn't the outer border be higher?

Thanks for the comments
The border: It actually depends on the violin, I have just taken things I liked from different images, but I could make that lip a bit stronger.
The sides: You are right about the sides, it needs to be UV'ed first though and I wanted to get the different parts in first. Next up is the screw that holds the tailpiece in place, then the strings and the screw that holds the strings to the tailpiece etc. and then UV mapping. Lots of work left - I just wish I had a real violin to look at tho..
Thanks for that ref image, it shows the screws that holds the strings to the tail piece very nicely

A small update:
UV mapping on the body, strings added, fixed some misplaced pegs, made the lip/border on the body a bit bigger..
I am starting to think a bit more in details of the actual textures and one thing I want to do is to put some wear and tear on it. That will require that I split up the wood materials a bit different, right now they are just using the same. But this is just my mind running away while modeling

.. I love that kind of storytelling that goes on in your mind when modeling.
Anyway, I am having fun with it..

Thanks for offering, the only thing I have been struggling getting refs on is how the chin rest is attached - so if you can get me a picture of that I would be very glad
do you play the violin ?

Hey, ... the fretboard doesn't look like it has enough curvature ?
