From my point of view - gotta play more with material:
Needs some shininess/roughness, and definitely
SSS.
Otherwise it looks too fake, or at least not like a horn.
Looking forward for an updates,
Good luck

indeed m-que, not horny enough to satisfy me either
took your advice and tried to find the spot in material to make them more horny.
sometimes easy to find, sometimes takes a while...
hopefully my stamina can last. i'll post an update when the horns get tired... from rendering. Thanks for the feedback!

no idea..... i tweaked with the sss parameters a bit and raised the absorption and scattering for the next one and set it to render over night so we'll see what happens...

this noise will never dissapear in this resolution. You have to render this image at least twice bigger to SL about 13-14 (same time) and just change image size to smaller version, this nasty dots will be gone.

I think the SSS makes it look like plastic. I think you should try to add some
dirt/color...

thanks kurt! i needed to hear that.
here's the reference horn i was originally working off of.. it's old and weathered...
back to square 1 it is.... will play around with the color map to see if that helps...

You can't see any sss in that thing ... I thought your first ones were pretty good, ...just need the mentioned sheen.
