the other day i was browsing the net for tech stuff, when i came across these neat mini-itx boards from intel (17x17cm), which even support quadcores now... following some links i hit this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre ... st15061655

.. in case you don't follow the link.. i did NOT model the thing myself..

credits go to a SolidWorks freak named "nNifty"

im just exploiting it.. :D

Image

looking further i found a half way decent top perspective shot of the mainboard in a online review, so i felt like texturing it...

before I had to do some reconstruction/correction; i didn't do it to pixel perfection.. but tried to get the things in the right place;
a rhino wire screenshot worked as template :

corrected:

it was a little work to join all the seperate .igs surfaces back into solids, once that was done i created a single planar projector for all the geometry. there is only one material in the scene, using 2bsdf layers for a coating effect.

shots from textured rhino viewport:

and the first render with the corrected texture. lighting is done via the B&W studio hdr set in the goodies section. SL 19.70

obviously a single material can't produce the 100% correct representation.. ( some plastics too shiny and there should be some rubber parts) but this was more about a little texturing practice.. which happened to really surprise me..

c&c very welcome,

:p

Nice! All it's missing is the dust and cat hairs. :D

Beautiful.

...and I would love to build a mini-quad. Pretty sweet.

That motherboard looks like a jewel! :shock:

hello everyone & thanks for commenting !

@ivox

the tough thing is to find the right case/powersupply for it.. most itx solutions are made for pentium M - core duo at best..
if you come across something let me know!!

@tom

the real board is quiet a bit mirror like, before the dust & cat hair obviously,
i guess you mean i should have bothered to use a bump/roughness map.. :roll:

yes, look at the reflection... you're gonna need a bumpmap on the board.. and another one on the metals to make the scratches

God damn, that is a very nice job. A digital Caliper, what is that?
:lol: minus the caliper part.....

Hello again,

thanks rusteberg,
& Leonardo for your suggestions!

that sort of what i had in mind... spent a little time with shadermap to get a normal map, and an AO for roughness map..

but i ran into some bump mapping artefacts on the steep metal surfaces of the NB cooler..

Image

so i had to copy the material and remove bump/roughness for that one

generally i tried to go for realism and get rid of the over metallic look of the first render. it i still one material except the cooler... the artefacts are also visible on other objects but not so much.. i think it is either due to normals in the mesh or because the texture is stretched extremly on vertical parts..

the new renders with a few additions (vrams & NB braket) and the two maps applied: (sorry for the wide image.. )

That's pretty cool -- fun to look at. Nice polynurb. ;)
