Rose Stems

Hello all,

I came across a vase by Christofe that I liked and decided to use it for HDRI enviroment tests. I modeled the vase in Rhino 3D r4 and the rose stems are an OBJ I downloaded off the net (freebie).

The HDRI render worked fine on the vase but the rose stems look cartoonish. I cannot seem to make it look at least half real. I have not attempted a flowering plant as a close-up before and would like to know what all of you MR guru's do with such scenarios.

regards to all,
Doug

I first tried SSS but got some odd results. With your comment I went back and played with different SSS settings and got a much different result. I still think it needs work but the rose stems are beinning to look more realistic.

Actually I ended up using the Orange Peel SSS material from MXM and replaced the maps and tweaked the settings and got what is shown for the buds.

Thanks Bubbaloo, you have sent me in the right direction.

regards,
Doug
