Was inspired by a show on Discovery today about Benoit B. Mandlebrot. Created this simple experiment but hit the limits of my little home computer. 17 million polygons, 500 polygons in render.

Manually... 8)

Started with a box.
Instanced and scaled it to half and placed one on the top and four sides of the original. Rinse. Repeat.

I had originally subdivided the box so I could add a turbosmooth to them, but that would have fried my computer.

At 17 million polys my viewport was at .5 frames/sec. :(

Haha, it's really easy to do in Max with the new "working pivot".

To me, it looks like a cutting tip that you would use on a tunnelling machine. Can you see the different sections all rotating in different directions? Maybe I'll do an animation... nah...
