Great! The only thing that doesnt look right is the silver jack material - Love the green plastic! :)

hmm....familiar :)

I obviously missed the right focus, but you have to forgive me since I took this with my iPhone (with my macro adapter) :)

as Tea_Bag pointed out the silver material is rather gold coated and scratch it a bit will you? (see photo) It could become a pretty cool shot!

I think they are similar, but not the same. The one on my desk at work is silver/chrome, not gold and the grooves in the green flexible part are a bit different. But you're right, it needs more scratches. I'll fix it.

Here is an update. I think I will occasionally add more stuff when I get bored at work. SSS still needs tweaking on the highlighter cap.

seems obvious, but do you work in an architecture firm? What software do create your models in?

How did you guess? (See my sig line)

I use Max 2009 for all modelling. I am experimenting with Mudbox right now to be able to create better displacement and normal maps.

oops....yeah....It was obvious!!!
I use AutoCAD for modeling now, but im learning Maya...I was sold the point that ppl were using Maya for architectural stuff just as much as 3Dmax...not sure that true
but anyway, you are using Mudbox, never heard of it....for better displacement?

It's a sculpting program like zbrush, to add fine details to your meshes then bake displace or normal maps.

Here's a little addition. Added a couple of highlighters.

Looks good! I REALLY like the felt tip of your marker! How, may I ask, did you do that?

Thanks! I created a subdivided box and stretched the vertices a bit to make it flare a little at the tip. Then the material has a very fine noise displacement map and the same sss component as the yellow plastic, only dull instead of shiny (a render killer!). That was actually my first test with the marker tip material and it turned out pretty good, I think. That kind of luck only comes on projects with no deadline.

I let this render overnight on 15 cores and it reached S.L. 23. It still had enough noise that I had to run a filter on it in photoshop...

Hey, thanks for the explanation! I am thinking of an absinthe scene, and that felt tip looks like, with a little tweaking of course, it could be made to serve as a sugar cube. Thanks!

Your tick marks and writing on your architects scale, was that texture mapped in 3DMAX or in photoshop? could you explain how that was done

thanks
