Put it away until you do. Works for me... or give it to me, I'll render it for you and then you'll get competitive and want it back

Yes you loose the focus and intrest, which often results in a 80% done render

To bad you lost interest in this model because it's a beauty in precision and detail

wow! i am sooo envious of your skills Thomas. You should really try to render this, it would be a great addition to your portfolio or if not you can always sell the model.
Great modeling!

Is this a poll? I vote for you to texture and render it. Or release all rights to it and give it to me.
You could make a Maxwell texturing contest out of this model. Post it for download, and see what people can do.
Or you could stow it away on your HD never to be seen again.

It's true that the interest wanes after all the tedious modeling. But I think that there's also a resurgence of interest if you can muster an initial render --- because you begin to see (even with a diffuse render) how all the modeling is paying off --- and it kind of gets exciting again.
Just render the damn thing and truly be done with it.

Ohh ... hey, we got a Render-Intervention-Group going !
(featuring both forward and reverse psychology at the same time

)
Guys ! .. it's
Phong art, (less is more, FengShui thing) ... no render can capture the zen of a phong shaded wireframe

great modelling!
why don't you just share the scene/object and make a small rendering challenge/charette out of it?

That's "abstinence syndrome" for modeling
...incredible modeling btw
