Fisrt scene renders

Hello,

I have finished my first two true scene renders using MR. I am having problems with, of all things. lighting. I thought I would put them on the forum and let everyone comment.

I really like MR but it is a bit different and sort of confuses me at times. Of course that is really not all that hard to do. Note that the first image has a composite of Vue 6 background trees and sky.

Please comment as I need to learn the in's and out's of this awesome software.

Thank you Tom.

Do you have any suggestions for the "patio" scene? Something just does not look right to me. I just upgraded to 1.7 like everyone else, but have not used SSS for the grass, ivy and tree leaves. Maybe that bit of Subsurface scattering would liven it up. I like it when something jumps out a grabs your retina's! :)

By the way when you generate a scene like this what size would you set the output too? The patio was 1600x914.

Hi Doug,

It looks cool for me, only the rocky surface is a bit strange on the second image. Looks like water mesh with stones map on it. Maybe tweak the cam angle so the first sunbed is not cuted. But overall it is pretty nice :)

For those stones, you should use a good displacement map instead of deforming the mesh with noise.

The rocks in the patio scene are with the material and displacement map from the MXM Gallery Materials named "gravel". I only notice the "wave" after it had churned overnight and did not feel like stopping it. It seems to be touchy. It would either be flat or spike with rather small variations in the displacement.

I broke the grass and rocks into uniform square planes to simplify generation. Maybe I should not have done that.

I have another one in works and hope to post it soon.

No NoahPhense, one is resting on the other at an angle. You are right that it looks that way because of a strong shadow. Point taken for future reference and/or PhotoShop tweaking.

I really appreciate the comments so far. One has a tendency to miss stuff like this when you are the only eyes in it's creation. Thanks to all.

In other to fix that... you need to do a combination of:

Add more geometry to your plane (subdivide the mesh )

increase the "precision" on the displacement... or if your brave enough click on "adaptive"

For flat planes like that one (with little mesh subdivision) I would use a precision of (200-300). Also, if your model is to scale I would click on "absolute units" for the displacement height. How big are those pebble stone? I'm guessing 2.5-3.5 cm
