Thunderbird 3 (Updated 25th May, 2008)

I have this model currently in progress that may be of interest to some. The model is based on the Thunderbird 3 rocket from the 1960's TV series, Thunderbirds.
Modelling this simple by mainly using Cinema4D primitives as the basis for the rockets parts.

Detail is added to the basic shapes.

Model textured using Bodypaint. The Maxwell materials for the various metal parts have a titanium IOR layer - I usually find this the best way to obtain a natural metalic sheen on coloured metalic components.

The rocket in my interpretation of the its launch silo surroundings.
Terrain made in Cinema 4D and seen here as texturing gets underway.
The trees are Xfrog ones and I will be using some tree photos' I recently shot, on billboards, for distant vegetation.

Hervé,
Fernando Tella,
paperless: Thank you for the comments.
zoppo: Thank you too. I haven't posted detailed modelling work here because it's a very simple model constructed mainly from Cinema4D primitives with the usual connecting, chopping and welding of parts. However, a bit more detail of the various stages of progress can be found at:

This update includes a start of texturing the building using mainly BodyPaints' interactive UV mapping. This preview also includes trying the terrain displacent and using a different foreground XFrog tree. The trees are causing problems with my modest system so probably will render the final image in several parts and composite as postwork.

rusteberg: Thank you. The 'wireframe' is really just a render of the UV template that was made.

I looked skywards today and saw the sun was shining over a cloudy England sky. Out came the camera and this is the photo I've decided to use as a sky background for the Thunderbird 3 scene.

Additional Xfrog trees have been added and the building painted. The curtains were present in the TV series!
Made a start with some effects as postwork. I've used a Maxwell z-depth image to control the depth of some light mist I've added.
The engines get their first bit of flames and smoke which now raises another bit to do - the engine flames would be casting light/reflections at the base of the Thunderbird. So, I will convert those flames into Maxwell light emitters and render the base of the rocket (should have thought about that earlier!). Almost finished though.
