Hey, I was recently inspired by JCAddy's recent renderings found here:
http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... hp?t=27826
...and I liked his photoshop "people" so much that I decided to try to duplicate the effect rendered in scene. Here is my progress:
Thanks for the brilliant examples, Jason! Hope you don't mind me using it.
I plan on making many more once I get the materials right so I can populate some scenes with them.

doesnt look like a bad concept.. but it appears that the one that jason did where simpler angles like almost fully side on, from the back.. your 3/4 view is a little distracting from the nice rendering..
good luck

We do a similar thing in PS... sometimes in black, other times in white.
IMHO, the weirdest thing about your example is that the person is in a "mid-stride" walking pose, but has a wall right behind her... as in she wouldn't likely be walking in the direction you've shown her unless she walked right through the wall.
Although, knowing your skills, I'm guessing this is just an image depicting concept and you're already on top of it!

Yeah, I just threw her in a scene I had ready to render to test the material settings. I am putting some in a proper scene soon!

I don't mind at all, more power to you and anyone else who does it. I've seen the ghost people done a million times, I just tried to add a little flair to it by using a stroke and keeping them more solid than transparent.
I think what's weird about your image is that she's almost at an angle. I kept all my people flat as if they were cardboard cutouts standing in one spot. Also, maybe a more predominant line around the figure would help.

Thanks, Jason. I will have more test renders to post soon.

Bubbaloo,
this concept is starting to look good. I tried it with blank, white 3d people once but had to remove them as the really did look like ghosts!

Yeah, I got mixed reactions from people here at the office. Some people loved it, some people thought it looked like Casper the friendly ghost. All that matters is what the boss and clients think.

I got the same reaction. They ended up going with the photo people but others in the office liked the ghosties and wanted to know how to do it themselves as well. I think it's always a hit or miss.

Nice render.
Never understood, though, why people insist on putting, er, people in their arch viz stuff. I usually just find them distracting. Which goes double for these ghost-like ones.
- "I see dead people."
- "No worries. It's just arch viz."

If it was up to me, there would be no people in my arch vis renderings.
Clients and bosses always want people in them...
I'm always on the lookout for a better looking way to show scale figures in my renderings. We've all seen what happens when you try to put photoreal people into renderings... Yikes!

people often give you a scale, a feeling for the size of the room. and sometimes of its use. so i'ts not the worst idea, to put people into renderings imho ...

Well, if the boss and the clients want them ... Not much choice there. Personally, I never argue with the powers that be and/or clients.
- "We want everything to be pink!"
- "A fine choice, sir. I'll pass your wish on to our graphics department."
Less headaches, you know?
@ Kami: True, but furniture, a car etc will do just the same.
