Hi! First post of work here. Just beginning to learn about textures and the like. Would like a little feedback on how to improve the reality of the 'paintjob' on the cubes. need help spotting elements that yell 'CG'.

Thanks!

The checkered floor? :P

It's a good image and texture, just that an object is never worn out exactly the same all over it's surface. The scratches here are uniform. In reality some corners would be more worn, others less.

Very nice! Maybe you could round the corners more and add some scratches to facets. The ground looks a bit boring. I'm not against the checkers but if you can make them larger and model/map them like aged tiles with an uneven specularity, that'd also look much better.

Mihai-
Okay, I will 'uneven' the scratches more. I have applied a noise-ish texture to the roughness map to indicate uneven wear, but it doesn't appear to show up very well here. I'll see to that, too. Thanks!

Tom-
Ahh, maybe round one corner more than another, yes? that would look better. I like the tile idea. I'll give that a try as well.

Thank you, gentlemen. I will give those suggestions a go!

I'm not an expert but the roughness and reflectance in the cube looks pretty even... I would think there should be a differenc between the metal and paint area

 but I really don't know what I'm talking about so wait for confirmation from other members :D

It looks pretty good to me! I would agree with these other comments, but that's still nice work. I'd say that the paint should probably have some thickness, but I guess that would have to be modeled.

We're going to need to start a Denver users' group soon. There's at least 3 or 4 of us that I've seen.

Yeah, that sounds good, though calling me a 'user' is a bit of a stretch; I hit 'render' now and again, but I don't really know what I am doing, nor do I have a reason to do it. I fool around with it, but that's about it
