Overal nice work Jd !
The glassware shot could be a very nice image, but right now the gray background makes it look dark and a little blah ..

I mean, the last four look really pro to me, great layout, composition & materials - great work. I'd say the first two lack the same flair that the others have - I'd work a bit more on the composition & lighting. Cool stuff

You are off to a much better start than I was when I first started using maxwell. The glasses like Thomas said need something. Try backlighting them like you did in the chair image to give the image more drama. Also maybe space the glasses out closer to the edge like the bed image. There is too much negative space on the sides, which does not help the shot.
Bed image is close, but judging from your floor shadows it looks like you have too many lights coming from a similar direction. Try to bring it down to two or three emitters that are whose position and intensity doesn't cause the busy shadows on the floor. This is distracting from your design.
Tableware image is a litte dark on my screen, and the last image could stand to be a little brighter also.
The material on the phone screen needs some work. It is too matte black. I would put an actual screnn mxi texture on it, or give it some reflection, and a little bit of roughness.
As for your designs in general me like

The glasses look good, but the environment is lifeless and dark.
The wood on the bed isn't very good- the grain looks fake and it's running the wrong direction in a bunch of places (you need to rotate your projectors). And obviously the pillows and mattress are pretty clunky. I use SW too and model a lot beds- I usually just use purchased bedding models and import them into Studio. You'll tear your hair out trying to model stuff like that in SW.
The phone is good, but the chrome needs something to reflect. Turning the screen on would give it some pop too.
The plates are great, although they look too thin, and where the bowls are stacked they look too close together. The above sentence could also apply to the chair image in its entirety.
The lamps are quite good, although I'm not entirely sure what's going on (two different deisgns, or the same lamp with and without the shade?).

Great work, it seems you have studio lighting down pretty well.
The only thing that struck me is in the phone rendering they are all turned perpendicular to the camera except the one on the end. And even if they aren't "truly" perpendicular, it's close enough to center to give that appearance. Obviously they aren't which is why the one on the end looks off.
Other than that, and the other above comments, great start.

They all look much better now, but I almost want to say that the red tones on the first phone render, look nicer.

Haha, not to be annoying, but now that I see the phone straightened out I can't decide which one I like.

They both look very nice, go with your gut on that one.

Much better. Did you try backlighting the glasses to get them to pop.

nice work!! i would agree with eric about the phone. also, the keypad for phone looks rather flat as well. maybe add some bump to the map you have on it, or model the actual keys. RISD is a nice choice.... what is your background (undergrad) ?

unfortunately i do not have any experience with RISD, but have heard nothing but great things about it. i hear the curriculum is very rich and provides highly creative atmosphere.
best of luck with your submissions, let us know how it goes!!

jd wrote:Eric, i put a light behind the glasses but had to move it up and back a ways to keep the light from reflecting on the floor in the middle of the image. I guess at second look the top of the background is lighter in the second image?
Ahh yes I imagine the reflective floor could cause an issue for this. I have never really used shiny floors so I did not think about this. It is much much better though than the first image. I would leave it as is. Best of luck with your presentation. Keep posting new images. Its good to see other ID people here on the forum.
