Regarding the 'bullet time' animation:

Each frame rendered between 17 and 25 minutes - each to SL 10.

As for the FX: What I did was to link all of the objects (buildings, figures, ground, etc) and camera path to a dummy object, which I animated falling a long distance. I made a copy of the figure and moved it above the main one, and applied motion blur to the higher one. I also optimized the blurred figure, removing all of the high detail geometry (face, eyes, mouth, etc.), and used the optimize modifier on the rest to reduce the number of poly's (motion blur eats a lot of memory and processing resources). This will of course screw up the mapping for the texture, but since it was highly blurred, this had little effect. And there you have it, bob's your uncle.
