Apartment W.I.P. - Need help

So I'm working on this apartment interior and I'm about a quarter of the way through as far as adding furniture and "clutter." I know there's still lots to do, namely add a base material to the emitters, but currently I'm not happy with the test rendering. Not only is the sunlight taking longer to clear up than the emitters (which I would not have suspected) but it seems like everything is covered in a thin layer of grease. Well, I call it grease, my friend called it clear grit. And it just seems flat. Either way it kills the realism. Can anybody offer some pointers on the materials maybe?

What material is the walls? Looks much too reflective.

Since we can't have your materials, try to do the following
Search the material database from MXMgallery and find and download the materials you could use for your scene (at least some of them). Then re-render and see what difference you can find (I mean time, quality, reality). I have used some of these materials and they made a difference.
I haven't found the time needed to explore the params to improve mine.

I've been put onto a "high priority project" so this is now on the back burner for me. I'll try some stuff and nudge this again when I get a chance to update. Thanks anyways.
