Are you using those highrez tubes as emitters? It's a very good idea to keep emitter geometry to a minimum, or you'll have much more noise.

Mihai: im well aware of the emitters should be kept to a min set of faces. but thanks for pointing it out to me

and yes im using those highres tubes for lights

im a sucker for long render times and a little noise.
