That's really nice.

The dark environment reflection is a little distracting though.

Very nice and real looking render, maybe a bit more light sources

Yeah, but, I set this up to render at work while I was at home, so didn't really notice that at first. Definitely something I'm going to fix tonight.

I think it may be a little too sharp. Is there a way to soften the focus at all? Similar to Lightwave's "Soft Filter" so that the focus doesn't really change, but the edges aren't quite as hard?

Very good job and interpetation of the photo CJ, i'm impressed!
I got a bunch of reference photos of that cup if you want, it includes closeups of the painting on the side, the stamps on the underside and more deail shots. Let me know
Btw, if you wanna soften it then perhaps you could set it outta focus a bit, just a little bit to blur it..
Oh and maybe you want the EXIF info aswell

EDIT: Also, if anyone can tell me why the rim might appear brown, I'd appreciate it. It's supposed to be a cobalt blue, but isn't showing up that way. Is it just the environment combined with the blue? (Sorry for the questions, but I've done most of modeling for specific purposes within websites and training modules, with very little "art" involved, so haven't really had to mess with some of this stuff)
It's the lighting set up. I ran this through Photoshop. Auto contrast, Auto levels, Auto colour.

There's too much colour wash from the current lighting set up. I've not seen the original photo for comparison though.
Nice work & great first real post.
Tim.

I used a very yellow light...so, that must be what's doing it. I used the "Sodium 250W" preset, but made it a little cooler (tones...apparently cooler temperature gives warmer tones? Quite confusing), as the original was VERY yellow. Thanks. I'll make it even less yellow, I think.

Nice shot CJ!
Yes a lower temp will cool the light, but maybe a sodium lamp is not what you need there. Personally I'd try a halogen, play with temperature and adjust shutter speed accordingly 'on the fly' in the mxcl.

I will try that. I've also received some reference stuff from Maximus, and have updated the models on my own as well. I'll probably try to model the cups from the reference photos, and try this setup with both types of cup.
