I needed a tire model and thanks to this post I got good reference images

Tried to make it detailed but keep the polycount as low as I could, about 85 000 now. Just started on the sides, look too flat now. No textures yet.

Thats looking really good Mihai. I have never seen a tire of crome before. That would be something to pimp my ride with.

Very nice model Mihai!! In a near future you can see how Maxwell will handle that model with much less polygons with displacement maps!!

What beautiful modeling Mihai, you are soo good!
I was thinking about Auto tires the other day and visited a couple auto dealerships to look at tires and finishes. Surprisingly, tires are not as glossy as we tend to think and make them. When new and on the floor for display they are sprayed with a glossing liqued to look bright and shinny. But in reality they have a very subtle gloss or hitlite, but it is much more broad than we tend to make our textures...bringing out details in the darker areas more than most renders show. But the thing that struck me the most was the super slick and unreal look of the tires in the showroom.
Cheers, Ron
