use this water and caustics technique....I haven't found anything that works better. I can't thank Gianni enough.

...can you please explain a bit more about that technique?

its not about cheating caustics ( which to be honest im not that bothered with )
its more about getting the surface texture right, like i said when this first started i saw the reflections now its clear, too clear

i shall sort it sooner or later

I am having the same issue with ags on one of my projects also. It becomes so clear looking and looses the reflections even if I crank up the one layer to 30 or 40 on the weightmap for the reflective layer of the material.

Personally I think it's just a product of the lack of refraction in AGS materials, I had the same problem recently. I now only use AGS in very limited circumstances [window glass as seen from the inside of a building, for instance].
I would imagine using a 1.33refraction surface on that pool would make a mass of difference.

hehe... you solution is definatly in you last sentance...
a little bump on it using for exemple, this map (tilable), cant remember who posted here, but many thanks to him
then after, with the good refraction on this water, you'll naturally want to add some caustics, but for that you got the link
