i really loved them ... but in the «early days» from all the simple pieces one model was built. for the new fancy modern models, nearly for every part, a special designed part is needed that fits (nearly) only to this model.

We know about this issue and personally I feel the same, being an old school lego user :P .. And that is why products like LEGO City and Creator has been reborn.
I really like the new city line, its amazing and I can tell you that theres now strict rules for when they may create a new element or not and mostly the answer is "not".

Basicly that means that the number of different bricks has been reduced drastically now.. So we are aware of that and its being fixed :) Even the number of different colors are being reduced.

Old values are new values - or something like that. <pathetic attempt on a motto look a like :P

Most people buy the F1 to have it as a shelf piece, to look at.. not to assemble and disassemble.

But a classic example of old school lego, that really works, is the star wars line. Take the big imperial carrier - 3000+ grey bricks, that are just old school bricks almost all of them. (I am so happy I didnt have to make the boxes for that thing in 3D /shivers... that would be an insane polycount haha)

I havnt tried it myself, but I think you can buy the Lego mindstorms NXT online, I am not sure tho. If not, then try to contact lego customer care, I am sure they will try their best to help you. If you are unable to get it after that, then PM me and I will personally make sure you can get hold of one.
