That lettuce is incredible. I'd like to see a tutorial on how you created that. Modeling and texturing.

hi aaron,
it started from the rough shape of the object (which sat on a plate on my desk)
then, from the overall shaped polygon, i duplicated groups of faces to mimic wrapping leaves.
then mapped each new polygon from photos i took of the actual thing sitting on the plate near my workstation.
once each polygon was unwrapped and mapped, i created a quick and dirty alpha mask for each lettuce leaf.
from there it was a lot of soft selection tweaking and render tests to insure the desired impression was achieved.
after that, i did some light sculpting on a highly subdivided version of the mesh and produced a normal map for it through zbrush.
some scant screenshots below depicting the process.
does this make sense? let me know if not and i'll see about putting together some more in depth info when time allows

So glad to see this still moving forward! It's progressed immensly since the last time I saw it and I look forward to a final product!

Are you the only one working on it still or have you recruited help? This could be a fantastic short film and get praise all over the web when you finish it!

Need some help with the comping / editing footage together? I'd love to create a title slide, edit together some clips and create the credits (after effects work) if you're open to others helping out.

Cheers.
