Any ideas? Geez, this is so frustrating.

Ok, I exported the mxs only to a new file/directory from within Max. I then opened that mxs in Studio (the new icon name for maxwell I see) and the file opened with materials and all.
Still have no idea how to render though.

same here. Did they already know the max plug has this problem, or they just uploaded it without testing?

Exporting the mxs file and using Studio works. However, I have no idea how to render. See my "getting closer"post in the maxwell render section.

I've done that but still when you try to render from inside the new beautiful maxwell it crashes
Add Path

Hello, Hey, I'm not an expert, but I think you can solve the problem by going into the 3DsMax Customize pull-down and adding the
C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\mxcl
path to your system
(Configure User Paths)
...add the directory where mxcl.exe is, and it should work
(also, on my install, I wasn't prompted for the lic file, I had to enter it in the Studio pref's manually)

Did this work for you?

Same problem here.
Fritz: What path are you talking about (External Files, File I/O, XRefs, 3rd Party Plugins) ?
Thanks
Paths - maybe...

Hi again,
Well, I put one in each:
Configure User Paths/
External Files & 3rd Party Plug-Ins
...however, when I exit and re-start Max, it forgets - I seem to have to re-enter the path each time Max is launched. Plus, this is Max 8. My bad, sorry!
I guess it's probably an environment variable that has to be set...

Ok. That worked in the sense that mxcl started, but all I get is a black render and RC1 just sits there doing nothing.

Well, I got max to talk to mxcl and start a render. Skylight/sun/skydome, etc DO NOT work. When using an emitter, something at least happens, but its the black and white nonsense mentioned elsewhere.
(Rafa, you do the license thing from the Help menu.)

yep, sky/sun/dome don't work, emitters are totally screwed up, but you can adjust them if you import the scene in the studio.
