When opening or merging old files created in 05/2006, maxwell.dlr is missing, and 3dsMax crashes, is there a known workaround?

Usually merging those files gives you time to replace old materials with new ones. As you say merge still crashes max I would try merging only some objects of the scene, fix materials, save scene, merge another part of the file, fix materials, save,...

If maxwell.dlr is missing it means Maxwell has nothing to do with the crash.

Exactly, but there was a time i could merge my max file, now i can't.
Fortunately, the last project version has been saved with a biased renderer setup too

and now that i've done everything again, this is what i have on every textured objects:
ERROR: - UVW channels ( 1 ) on object "Object01" not enough for material "Peintures"
</tt>
ERROR: - Render Failed
Not to say bad comments, of course

It seems it comes from the downloaded mxm i used, when replaced by a self-made it's ok.
To be continued...

Changing the map channel to 2 in the uvw resolved the [`\^@~{`@~`\ thing
Are all the mxm in the MXM Gallery ok?
