When i try to load a sky-file from C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\skies i get a "couldn't load the sky settings file"-error in max.
Same sky-file loads without incident in studio.
I'm on xp64 running max 9
intel Quadcore w 4gb ram.

I need the sky file please (
bogdan.coroi@gmail.com). Where do you have the file from? (Max, studio ...)
Also, do you remember to have regional settings changed from the defaults? And what was the default?

The sky file was the clearsky_tom.sky from C:\Program Files\Next Limit\Maxwell\skies, that came with the installation - i can resend it to you if you like, but you should have it in the same folder as me. I didn't change my location from the default one (long 40, lat 20) before my first post, but I've just tried changing it, and had the same error.
Error occurs both in clean new max-files, and in files with allready modelled geometry.

How about the regional settings. Have you changed them somehow?

I had a trial of another renderer installed a while ago (rhymes with skyrender), that also used the .sky extension for atmosphere-files. It's uninstalled by now, but might that have something to do with the problem?

No, it has nothing to do with another application or plug-in installed. The only thing that might affect the loading of the sky files is the regional settings. All the sky files were tested and worked fine. So, to dig it further we need the regional settings. Btw, OS is in English?
PS. Sky files are .txt files. There is nothing mystic about them. You can open them up with notepad and copy/modify the values.

Hi there!
Same problem here with XP64 with clean scene and default settings.
Edit:
Some more info: I can save a file, but cannot load that same file.

Fernando, could you send me a sky sample file that won't load? Also, tell me more about your regional settings :).

I've fooled around a bit - i can save .sky files, but cannot load them back in, no matter where i put them.

File sent, but it's just one of the skies that come with the installation.

We have tracked down the problem and it seems that Windows Regional Settings affect the way .sky files are interpreted. Having other settings than English may give you that error.
Until a fix will be provided there are 3 workarounds:
1. The horror way, in which you can manually copy/paste the values from the .sky files to the renderer dialog.
2. Change your Windows Regional Settings to English, but that's not recommended since it will affect other applications too.
3. Simply activate the viewport sky preview and play live with the values and realtime see the results. It's not that hard to get beautiful skies :).
