I was just about to ask the same question.

From the info available in documentation and the mental ray forums, It seems to be a requirement, as the code for plug ins has to be recompiled for these new versions.

The current plug-in (1.6.10) not work on 3ds Max 2009.
We will wait for the new release.

Yes JTB, Max 2009 needs a new recompiled plug-in to work with. It will be available for the next plug-in update.

Any chance of a quick, use-at-own-risk recompile up on the download area prior to the next plug-in update?

I can defer the Maxwell part of the current project for a day or two, and just installed Max 2009.

Gads, uninstall 3ds 2009, reinstall 3ds 2008, then when next Maxwell plug-in update available, uninstall 3ds 2008, re-install 3ds 2009

It's true: I should have checked here on this forum first.

Yet I beg for mercy: Please a recompile...

It seems that a good news and bad news.

Good news is that someone who use max 2009 can render maxwell.

But it means that we can see the next version more later.

Hi.

We've built the public plug-in (1.6.10) for Max 2009. You can download it from here. There are no new features compared to the existing 1.6.10 version. Note however that this build hasn't been tested at all, so you're using it at your own risk. If you don't need support for Max 2009, don't install this.

Please understand that we have a development schedule and this is more like a favor to keep everyone happy. We were planning to include Max 2009 support in the next major update. We didn't schedule it earlier because frankly, Max 2009 barely has anything new compared to 2008 so we thought people won't jump to the upgrade so quickly.
