Problems with Alpha/MatID channels

Hi there!
Im noob here (been away for a yeah or so).
I try to render out an alpha channel from Max8 (any channel actually). When I check the channel, all i get is a single colored image. I tried to set material ID in max's mat editor.
What am I missing?

The alpha is rendered as a separate file, it should be in the same location your rgb image is saved to.

Yes I know, but that image has only one single color?!?!

But are you trying to render out an alpha, or a material id image? The alpha should just be a black and white image.

In fact i have tried every channel, but i only get a singlecolored image. I know how an alpha map looks like

Been busy this weekend, hence no reply.
I solved my problem. It seemed that I had some bad geometry causing the alpha problem.
