3ds Max Material Editor Bug

I not sure if this topic has been posting already so please forgive me if I'm restating something that has been addressed.

It seems that when I import too many .MXM material in the the material editor slots in Max, upon reopening a .max file and then opening the material editor, half the materials open up and then max crashes.

I work around this two ways (3 really).

One I always do a Save Copy As on anything I work with in max. I've been burned with max crashing and then corrupting my working file.

Two I open up a new scene all together and import the geometry from the autoback file that is generated. This wipes the mat editor clean so max doesn't crash.

Three I work with two monitors so I just leave the mat editor open while I work.

This present the minor nusance of having to reset all the rendering parameters in the maxwell rollout. For the ADA bathroom (posted in the wip section) I've had to do this about 6 or 7 times already.

Good news is it can be worked around.

I've been running into this as well, it gets very annoying when you have 20 or more materials loaded and you have to wipe them all and reload everything. I'm really looking forward to the next update; hopefully it will fix all the bugs and won't come with any new ones.

I agree, the eye-dropper tool is our friend at this point.

A good walkaround for this is to change renderer to scanline, open material editor and change back to maxwell (save presets for this to make it faster and keep configurations). Most of times it works.

ok i guess we all experiencing this and other weird issues with max. For the first one i guess the best tip is to open the file in question and in the render options change your render engine before opening the material editor window. I find this to be enough in most cases and after it's open then i can change it back to M~R.

I get other issues like the material displayed on the view port not being the right material, but this might have something to do with the way i create some materials. So you should avoid copying materials and change maps as this causes issues, you should always start from scratch.

But i do whish NL could release a plugin with a bit more bite thatn this one, it is usable but not even closer to the beta version in terms of usability and stability....PLEASE NL get this sorted asap...

I get crashes like this when one of the MXM's is missing a map.
