HI ,

SP3 goes perfect here . not like sp1 or sp2 .

try to change graphics mode first , before uninstall .
if you have software , choose open gl or directx , and see what happens .

SP3 is very stable here.

Try video card drivers like Jamsurf suggested. Check you system video drivers also. Most crashes in Max are caused by video card issues.

What system driver are you using? I'm using 71.84 with my FX3000 and it's solid as a rock.

Hey ,

im going to take advantage of this post , by if you , j_man and robert ,
know or have been capable of bake correctly with mental ray of max .

sorry by diferent theme but is a question ever i has , never answered by
no one , never .

i have a 6800 gt and never get any problem with drivers from 77.72

But on my mobile with a fx go 5700 , and no driver updates from Acer ,
max8 sp1 crash .changin mode graphics , then ok , but sp1 was
totally unstable . Sp3 goes ok .

Hey Jamsurf,

I dont ususally use texture baking so I can't help that much. Max8 is very stable and I hardly get any crashes and I'm using a variety of video cards, mostly NVidia qattro's and now a new ATI card.
My laptop has an old FXGo which is also pretty stable.

Thanks all ,

is really a nightmare . because i make huge scenes on realtime , and
the best aproach is radiosity for reality seems , but the subdivision
thing , makes me build the scenes like puzzles and for one scene ,
have the obligation of make 12-15 radiosity solutions with 2000000 polys
each . I live with this , hoping baking with maxwell sometime or
finding another thing . Standard ilumination was eliminated since
clients see first scene with radiosity bake . they dont want go back ,
even is the perfect way for bake without problems and few time
render to textures .
Never had an answer from forum of discreet or anywhere , is like
nobody have been made bake with mental ray , or made correctly
even autodesk declares that mental ray bake .
My proves always gives me bad results and extreme time renders .

thanks again
