Are you using grey scale or rgb images for the bump? It´s knows that maxwell works better with rgb images than with grey scale images when we want to use it for bump.

Same problem here.

I tried to make insect eye today and i had similar results with bump mapping.
I didn't realised that it was bug, i tought that i was doing something wrong.

This is exactly the right behaviour, the bump in the sphere fades out with frontal light, and get stronger with lateral light. The shadows seem to be in the right position acording the direction of sunlight.

i am sure its a bit more than just an optical illusion... :? :?: somehow i neever have the feeling bump maps are working correctly on my scenes

I see it in the first image, but not the others.
