Max material editor and Maxwell material editor

Hi,

I've just started the Maxwell standalone material editor. Nice, but how do I use it to assign materials to my Max scenes? I want to be able to create a Maxwell render-ready scene in Max and skip the part of having to save a scene as an MXS file first, assigning materials to that file and effectively having to keep a scene twice: the .max file and a separate .mxs file with the right materials.

Cheers,

Metin

Hi Metin,

You can create a Maxwell MXM material in the slot and then select your mxm file.

Speaking of the material editor has anyone else experienced max crashing when trying to maximize the material slot in maxs' material editor when selecting a maxwell material?

Thanks for your tip Frances! I'm going to try that out right away.

Tried it, works really nice. I particularly like the material editor preview. Finally something different than the black slots. :)

I'm really happy to be able to skip Maxwell Studio and work directly from Max.

Sorry I went off topic, should have started another thread:(

Since you were working in maxs' mat editor I was curious if you had ran into this problem.

No problem that you wrote it here. I didn't try to maximize a Max material slot yet, but I don't dare to anymore now. :) Did you enter this at the bug report section? Seems like an important bug to me.

I did get the material in my material editor slot. Isn't the Update Material button useful there?

Thanks for the reply:)

Come to think of it I believe the max mat editor uses the current renderer to render out the larger materail slot so I guess since maxwell doesn't actually render the materials in the mat editor it would cause it to crash???

Could be, but that is still not correct of course, as there's always a chance that you accidentally double-click on a material slot.

is it just me or we are better off using beta or RC with max?
The fact we can't get a proper preview in max is a killer! How are we suppose to use this plugin in such a long maner?
