Material Editor

Have they fixed the viewing of mw materials within the 3dmax editor? I still can't see ther materials.

It will never work, use the mxed to create/view/edit your Maxwell materials.

Max isn't capable of rendering with maxwell though the material editor or even editing the materials correctly.

Make a new Maxwell MXM material, and then click 'create new MXM material' and the maxwell material editor will pop up. When you render the maxwell material, it's icon will appear in the max material editor.
works pretty well I think.

Previews work but it seems buggy. I had a crash with the max material editor when it was set to M~R. Had to switch the preview back from M~R to max's to keep the material editor from crashing max.

Preview work just only with mxm files, not work with other plugin material like maxwell diffuse, maxwell plastic. etc....

Maybe we should use only mxm material.

And in my case, when I creat new mxm file, MXED launched with command line window (cmd.exe).

If I close that window, MXED is work finely.

But let alone that window, 3dsmax is frozen. :(

I think the mxm is the way to go. plastic can't see bitmaps, and doesn't seem to understand specular. never mind I can now see the material in the editor with MXM. seems like the mxm needs to be saved as a file first before you fool with it.

In beta and RC 1-5 you could map you objets inside max, now if you use mxed materials you cant see anything, so now its very very hard to map anything.

If you copy one material to another slot in 3dsmax the material looses all its properties.

And with the beta-like materials in the max plugin there is still the auto uncheck with the maps in all materials, this error has been there since the beta and is still there ... when are you going to fix this ???? :?

To me there is no point having the stand alone material editor if you cant visualy apply the textures and map them in max? Double work to first applying max textures, map them and then change the materials for mxm ones
Is this the same for other progs...? cinema 4d etc
