Material test

I really really like the new material editor....so many possibilities. Semi transparent plastic caps with both rough and specular components are possible now....among other things.......among many many other possible things.

I made this scene to test some materials, modeling is a bit crude. The bottom half is supposed to be a pearl white material but I didn't have time to tweak it any more....tomorrow is another day....

I'll let it render longer once I set up the materials more.

sl 14, 38 min.

I really don't think RC2 rendering is as bad as people think. We could make bad images with beta and alpha as well.....just take some time and set it up correctly even if your anxious to render something.

As someone else mentioned, there is something added with RC2 that give a photographic feel to the images, more even than beta.

Nice results Mihai.

That complexity of overlapping materials as you done with semi-transparent materials is not an easy one.

Thanks for sharing!

I agree.

The reason I became excited about Maxwell in the first place was that Maxwell seemed to have the ability to capture mood, in a way similar to traditional photography. Many times, the best photographs would not be described as being 'photorealistic', but they are, of course, derived from reality. That 'something extra' is the mood they are able to convey, and Maxwell seems to be quite successful in capturing this. Most of what we percieve in the world can be defined by mathematics. Sound, light, etc. - all of these are based on the physical interaction of various entities moving and being moved at different frequencies.

Is it really any wonder that to capture mood, we must first accurately model the space in which it exists?

Sorry to get philosophical.

I like Maxwell.

finally got a coated plastic for my chairs,
so, it really isn´t that bad...

here a cropped one after 7:30 h SL 18.5, 3 Emitter, 5 Reflectors:

sorry, mihai, didn´t want to invade your thread, just thought the materials might fit in here

the material settings were a real fight, but finally it looked ok to me.#good, the caotings give a better result than the beta rendering with simple plastics, but all in all, it´s not better than my beta result.

what do you think ?

this is my beta result, physical sky + sunlight:

arch4d :: the coatings are so much more visually interesting than the beta materials. Fun trying to get the right amount of 'prism effect', eh? :)

This stuff is really going to start getting interesting when GI, Physical Sky, etc. are working.

I doubt that very much indeed.

Well the blurriness here is first of all because I didn't let it render long enough, the lower contrast noise in RC makes it look like it's blurrier. Also the settings themselves are made to be blurry, but if you look at the sides for example which is in focus, the line is sharp.

arch4d: your coated materials are great!!!
but i will wait for RC3 anyway, still on beta

I think this feeling comes from the overall blurriness of the renders, which seems to create an overall glow/glare in the scenes, and which seems to match more with the real photographic

I don't fully agree about the bluriness quality. Some of the most striking professional photos pride themselves for the "clarity" of the image.

very nice material mihai :D  didn't see it first
would like to see it with a little bit more cooking
